An International franchise with which we've built a synergistic relationship

CKE Restaurants Holdings, Inc. (CKE) and its affiliates are one of the world's largest operators and franchisors of quick service restaurants. With more than 3,500 owned or franchised locations in 42 states and 33 foreign countries and U.S. territories worldwide, CKE operates primarily under the Carl's Jr. and Hardee's brands. Both the Hardee's and Carl's Jr. brands have a rich heritage dating back more than 50 years, when Carl Karcher opened the first Carl's Jr. restaurant in 1956 and Wilbur Hardee opened the first Hardee's restaurant in 1960. CKE is headquartered in Carpinteria, California.

Outside Counsel

Lewis Rice serves as outside counsel to CKE and its affiliates for a variety of transactional, litigation, and employment matters throughout the United States, including real estate, asset dispositions and acquisitions, intellectual property, information technology, advertising, marketing, and sponsorship.

15-Year Relationship

Our attorneys have had a close relationship with CKE for more than 15 years, providing assistance on a range of strategic initiatives such as the 2013 implementation of a $1.15 billion company-wide securitization transaction and the recent disposition of hundreds of restaurant assets to select franchisees as part of a large-scale re-franchising initiative. In addition, our attorneys work closely with a variety of CKE executives, directors, in-house attorneys, and staff, providing a wide range of day-to-day legal services, from all forms of real estate transactions, to employment, intellectual property, marketing, and advertising issues.
