Lewis Rice Successfully Represents River City Casino, Applying Missouri Snow-and-Ice Rule

The Kansas City office of Lewis Rice successfully represented River City Casino in a slip-and-fall case involving the Missouri snow-and-ice rule, also known as the "Massachusetts Rule." Lewis Rice attorneys argued that the snow-and-ice rule prevents property owners from being held liable for conditions outside of their reasonable control. The Missouri Court of Appeals rejected the plaintiff’s argument that the Massachusetts Rule should be repealed or should at least not apply to hotel owners and operators. Robert W. Tormohlen, Joseph E. Bant, and Elizabeth J. Brown represented River City Casino on the case.
