Lewis Rice Gifts $10,000 to Mound City Bar Foundation Campaign for the Future

Lewis Rice donated $10,000 to the Mound City Bar Foundation’s Campaign for the Future, a new capital campaign developed to renew and strengthen the working relationship between the Black bar and the St. Louis legal community. The first of its kind, the campaign will also celebrate the Mound City Bar Association’s 100th anniversary.

The Mound City Bar Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization and the charitable arm of the Mound City Bar Association, the oldest Black bar association west of the Mississippi River. With the help of Lewis Rice’s gift, the Mound City Bar Foundation and Association will:

  • Professionalize and advance the infrastructure of the organizations to provide more opportunities for growth and sustainability.
  • Build a pipeline to identify, recruit, and place more Black lawyers in successful careers through programs and initiatives.
  • Use the law as a vehicle for social change and regional improvement.

“Lewis Rice is proud to continue working with the Mound City Bar Foundation in pursuit of our shared goal to expand opportunities for diversity, equity and inclusion within the St. Louis region and the legal profession as a whole,” said Richard B. Walsh, Jr., firm chairman. “We look forward to helping build the infrastructure needed to recruit, mentor and retain the next generation of diverse attorneys.”

The campaign and its inaugural donors, including Lewis Rice, were announced at a reception March 30, 2022, at the Missouri Athletic Club.

In addition to supporting organizations like the Mound City Bar Association, Lewis Rice proactively promotes diversity and inclusion in the legal industry through initiatives such as scholarships and internships for underrepresented students, membership in the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD), billable-hours credit for attorneys engaging in activities related to diversity and inclusion, and more.
