Corporate

International business, tax, and litigation matters are something with which Lewis Rice attorneys have a broad range of experience.

Our attorneys negotiate and draft international joint ventures; and licensing, franchising, and partnership agreements. We negotiate sales and distributorship agreements, and we work with clients to help them enter into direct export overseas. We assist clients in resolving customs issues, arranging export financing, and obtaining duty drawbacks.

Attorneys in the Firm's tax group have specialized knowledge and experience in all aspects of international tax including taxation of United States corporations entering into foreign distributorships, federal tax aspects of foreign investment by U.S. shareholders, taxation of foreign controlled corporations, and taxation of foreign companies and individuals doing business in the U.S.

Trial lawyers at Lewis Rice have represented U.S. companies in disputes with the U.S. Customs Service over tariff classification matters and other customs law violations. We have worked closely with local foreign counsel to try cases in foreign courts. We have taken depositions and obtained documents from witnesses in foreign locations, including Europe, Canada, and Japan. We have represented clients in commercial disputes concerning imported goods, which involved U.S. antitrust and international trade law.

Many of our attorneys are specialists in admiralty. The Firm has an extensive admiralty practice, including cases involving international trade, transportation, and shipping law. Attorneys specializing in admiralty law have had extensive contacts with London-based underwriters including those affiliated with Lloyd's of London and various P & I Clubs.
