Eminent Domain & Land Use

Lewis Rice’s eminent domain & land use attorneys represent clients nationwide, counseling private property owners and lessees, governmental entities, and other condemnor entities in all types of eminent domain and land valuation matters. Our team has extensive experience handling pre-condemnation entitlement review and analysis, conducting environmental and water rights audits, reviewing existing liens and leasehold interests, and in working with engineers, appraisers, acquisition agents, and relocation experts to maximize our clients’ end results, including managing potential tax consequences. Our depth of regional experience gives Lewis Rice a particular edge on local matters, as we regularly help our clients successfully navigate the complex inner workings of local government and administrative agencies.

Representing Condemnors

Lewis Rice’s eminent domain & land use attorneys represent condemnors in all phases of property transfer through the eminent domain process, starting with negotiations and continuing through litigation, if necessary. Our attorneys have served as counsel to oil and gas companies, railroads, redevelopment authorities, utilities, institutional lenders, municipalities, and other public agencies in cases relating to eminent domain and inverse condemnation issues for a broad range of public use ventures, including highway expansion, light rail construction and expansion, and oil and gas pipeline projects.

Our Commitment

Our team is committed to the very best result for our clients. Our Eminent Domain & Land Use Practice Group is comprised of attorneys of a diverse background and experience allowing us to think “outside of the box.” Our depth of experience gives us a unique and comprehensive approach to problem solving for our clients. We also work with our colleagues in other departments as necessary on unique bankruptcy, commercial finance, environmental, public utility, real estate, tax, trust and estate, and other issues arising in the condemnation proceedings.
