Biography

A former licensed CPA at a Big Four accounting firm, Derick C. Albers represents companies, banks, and other clients on a range of litigation and corporate issues. While he has handled complex commercial cases in numerous areas, Derick uses his accounting and financial expertise to focus extensively on shareholder disputes, securities litigation, and trust and estate/fiduciary litigation. Derick also advises corporate clients (both for-profits and not-for-profits) on a range of issues, including corporate governance, Board of Director/officer disputes, and securities regulation (including representing clients in SEC, FINRA, and various state regulatory investigations). He also handles cases involving banking, insurance (including coverage disputes), real estate, employment issues, and various other financial and business issues. Derick has successfully defended banks and other companies in “bet the company” litigation, including successful representation of multiple clients in litigation and arbitration involving tens of millions of dollars. In his first year of practice, Derick worked with a team of lawyers to secure a record-setting $60 million verdict on behalf of a nonprofit health clinic. Prior to law school, Derick practiced as a Certified Public Accountant at a Big Four accounting firm, focusing on tax consulting for individuals, corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, and other entities.

A native of Nebraska, Derick is a member of both the Missouri and Illinois bars. While at Washington University School of Law, he served as an editor on the Law Review and participated in a variety of activities, including moot court and the criminal justice clinic. Derick is a member of the Firm's Recruiting Committee. He was selected for inclusion in Missouri & Kansas Rising Stars® 2014-2018.

Derick serves as the Co-chair for the Firm's Recruiting Committee and is a member of the Firm's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee.
