Attorneys in the Firm’s tax department have specialized knowledge and experience in all aspects of international tax including: taxation of U.S. corporations entering into foreign distributorships, federal tax aspects of foreign investment by U.S. shareholders, taxation of foreign controlled corporations, and taxation of foreign companies and individuals doing business in the U.S. Trial lawyers at Lewis, Rice & Fingersh have represented American companies in disputes with the U.S. Customs Service over tariff classification matters and other Customs law violations. We have worked closely with local foreign counsel to try cases in foreign courts. We have taken depositions and obtained documents from witnesses in foreign locations, including Europe, Canada and Japan. We have represented clients in commercial disputes concerning imported goods which involved U.S. anti-trust and international trade law.
Many of our attorneys are specialist in admiralty. The Firm has an extensive admiralty practice, including cases involving international trade, transportation and shipping law.
