In the insurance law area, Lewis, Rice & Fingersh represents a number of insurance companies, brokers and agents, insured entities and other clients with respect to a wide variety of insurance related issues.
Specifically, we have for several years represented one of the largest life insurance companies in the St. Louis area and one of the largest health benefits corporations in Missouri in general corporate and regulatory issues, as well as in numerous litigation matters. Our work has included formation and certification of insurance companies, insurance regulation and compliance, insurance company mergers and acquisitions, mutual holding company conversions, and a wide range of insurance and reinsurance related matters.
Insurance defense work remains an important practice area within our litigation department. We regularly represent the insureds of various liability carriers in the areas of medical malpractice, product liability, employment practices, professional malpractice, admiralty and maritime, and toxic torts.
We also represent insured entities in reporting and presenting claims, providing coverage analysis and claims advice, advocating coverage positions, and negotiating and/or litigating complex insurance coverage disputes under all types of property and casualty policies, directors and officers liability policies, fidelity bonds and other specialty coverage policies.
In the health insurance area, we represent one of the largest national PPO and HMO networks in a variety of legal matters, including issues concerning utilization review, electronic claims processing, case management review, provider contracts, claims coverage disputes, vexatious refusal claims, class action litigation, Department of Insurance investigations and related matters. We have helped develop and work with all forms of managed care contracts and relationships.
